I'll always regret no going army. He washes out of SFAS but still gets to fall back on being a ranger. Meanwhile, I washed out of BUDS and by the grace of God I was able to get the last billet for corpsman (which I also didn't love). Most top tier dudes try out for BUDS, fail, and get stuck chipping paint or getting awful jobs far from what their dream was.

3 hr search knowing they had it the entire time is brutal.

Out of curiosity how old where you when you went to rasp? Primarily because I turn 27 soon and am currently training. Does age matter when most people in regiment are early 20s?

My goddamn map shifted in the case, threw my points off. None of the cadre or my peers could figure out what was wrong. I still managed to find 2 out of 5 points per day but that wasn’t enough to make it to team week. I’m good at land nav too. I will be back.

Is it better to go 18x or 11x and then drop an SF packet to get to selection?

You know, I had a rough time with this concept up until I was over 30 years old. Can't tell you when exactly, but it clicked one day. Coupled with the piss poor parenting job my parents did where they treated any mistake and lack of knowledge as a complete failure, on my part, from the youngest age I really beat myself up over any small mistake or felt like I was just plain stupid for not knowing how to do things. Since then I just giggle when I do dumb things or make mistakes because there isn't a single human alive that doesn't. It's how we learn, all of us. For anyone to try to persecute or judge others because of these is just insecurity and projection, along with that individual themselves likely being stupid. The worst "men" I've encountered are all similar "alpha" types who always turn out to be incredibly weak both mentally and emotionally. Something that really put it in perspective for me, and something I communicate to others that I see beating themselves up is a phrase that goes something like, "You're not dumb, you just did a dumb thing." It's just a few words, but it really shifts the mindset from, "Oh, I'm a failure and stupid." to "Well, haha, that was really stupid, I shouldn't do that again. Moving on.". I've been juggling with enlisting 18x for a few months now and after seeing your videos and other channels focused around SF, I'm pulling the trigger on it. Failure and mistakes have made me into a much tougher and resilient individual than the people who criticized me for any of it. I'm unphased by things that ordinary people freak out over, I don't jump to conclusions without information, I know how to continue pushing myself mentally when physically my body tries to convince me it's time to give up, I'm always looking to do better and learn more, etc. I wish there were better mentors out there for young men, especially in the military, to help grow them into good, strong men without thinking they need to break them and insist they shouldn't ever be "weak". The "alpha" men are almost always just overly aggressive, immature and stupid, however, they fake it enough to trick the young guys into second guessing themselves and believing the BS that spills out of their mouths. I hope that guys who find you really listen and then THINK about the message you're sending here. I know sure as hell if I met you as a younger man I would've been way better off than listening to the "alpha" types, as I did. America needs men like you that understand this and can communicate it properly. Thank you.

What would you say are good competitive numbers going into basic with? Running, push-ups sit-ups. I’m trying to decide if i think physically if I’m ready numbers wise

I’m thinking of going 18x as well. Since you’ve seen it what do you think are good competitive PT numbers on all the tests? Trying to see if I’m prepared enough

I just got to my first duty station, I’m an 11b and I have want to join Sf or ranger regiment.. but I don’t know what I think is best for me.

I got dropped from TACP for land Nav. last year. Ended up finding all my points but when I got back to camp I got told I was getting pulled for road walking because I got within 50m of a road during my 2nd point. Definitely the worst moment of my life but It's on nobody but me, at least I didn't quit. Now I'm stuck with some a shitty aircraft Maintenace job. I think the worst part is seeing all my friends make it through doing the cool guy shit and I'm not there with them.

What if you make it through but you aren't selected? Can you be reclassified? That would really suck if that's the case.

you're "happier" ... sure, dude. You were 18x... a civvie not used to having the weapon on you at all times. Unfortunate mistake. But don't say you are happier ... because the groups take a ton of guys from Regiment who get tired of the grind and want something much different. Respect.

As a prior SF instructor in the Q-Course, nothing pissed me off worst than losing a rubber duck. I never made them tie them down like in Ranger school. We want adults. Men that are responsible for their equipment. Not privates. Plus those rubbers ducks are expensive. I had to replace at least three to four a class.

As of now if you fail land nav as an 18x you get a 6 month return

So if you fail do you basically fall into rangers?

Join 19th or 20th Group in the National Guard, if you make it through the course you can go active duty then and not have to worry about ending up a cook.

Rangers are elite infantry and Special Forces are Commandos. They both have different roles.

I have a red/green colorblind deficiency. How bad is that

I'm in student company at swcs right now, have been for about a month and the prep course will start in 3 weeks. Mostly the same but some things have changed. Before you go to sfpc you're in AT and ay first it wasn't too bad. 3 formations a day with morning pt and released at 1300. We have out phones and will have them in sfpc too. But with the command changing recently, it has become a complete ball kicker!! I can't wait for the prep course because that will be a break compared to this!! We're running no less than 5 miles in the morning, sometimes twice a day in boots and uniform. Sometimes they destroy us with 100s of flutter kicks and sprints which feels like a break tbh! I had got transfered to the recovery unit for a few weeks because of a minor knee injury but I should be good to go in a few weeks. The Cadre are assholes and we play a lot of fuck fuck games!! But all that being said, I'm whete I want to be!! If you can pass the 40min 5 mile and do well on the pt test you'll be good to go. But it will still be tough!! This all could very well change again. I probably just got lucky enough to be in a beat down class lol Sfpc is now 5 weeks but very similar to sopc The pt test is minimum of 38 handrelease pushups in 2 min, 8 pullups pass/fail, and 2 mile run under 14:25min. You can now get recycled if you fail the star course in sfas. There are several dudes here because of that. Life is good compared to OSUT as long as you're good at pt!!

So are there pull ups or chin ups for the sfas pt test? I thought it was push ups, sit ups, 2 mile and chin ups/pull ups? But obviously I’ve never been so you would know more lol

Why did you end up as a mechanic after not getting selected? I thought non-selects went 82 airborne as a 11b.
